I think that when people ask “Why?” to someone doing something out-of-the-ordinary, they’re not really asking Why, they’re asking What. As in: “What’s different about you — what do you have that I don’t?” Because they feel the same inkling that we all do, but it’s repressed, and they’re pissed about it.
